The Dress
Today I am feeling rather sad but excited. I long to put on my Wedding dress! I was looking at it the other day and I really wanted to put it on and wear it around the house. Yes, it sounds silly but I absolutely love my dress! I unzipped the plastic bag that protects it pulled the two beaded straps out and was about to expose it all when I quickly tucked it back in. I hung it back up feeling like I was about to do something wrong. It kills me!! I am like that little girl who wants to play dress up! I am counting down the days until I take my Bridal portraits. I can’t wait to get dressed up from head to toe to feel like a Princess again. You are probably reading this thinking, "What’s the deal with this dress?" Oh there is a story, a good one at that too! From the first time I saw it, I knew it had to be mine.
One Saturday afternoon my Granny, Aunt Cindy, and Mother took on the task of taking me dress shopping. We went to several little boutiques and some big stores but nothing was catching my eye. Everything I saw was strapless and foofy with lots of appliqués. Don’t get me wrong they were beautiful, but they weren’t for me. There was one more boutique we had to venture into. By this time my entourage was rather perturbed with me. I went to a dress rack and plucked out a couple, I will say I was pretty tired of dressing and standing around for all to see waiting to put on the dress I picked out hearing mediocre sighs. I then slipped on "the one" and I saw jaws drop and big crocodile tears looking back at me in the mirror. At that moment, I knew this was it, my quest was over and I had found my dress! When it settled in that this in fact was the dress we quickly looked for the price tag but could not find it. Panic set in and I thought to myself, "No. No, I have to have this dress!" We questioned the young sales attendant and she too was baffled with the missing price tag. She came back a minute or two later with the price.
The dress, my dress, was $5000!!!! $5000 was $1000 over my budget. Obviously, my Mother and I were completely appalled because that was a ridiculous price; this wasn’t a "Platinum Wedding" on WE. I had a budget! We pleaded and pleaded with the sales attendant to lower the price because it did not have a price tag, she didn’t budge. We left saddened and disgusted. I cried all the way home. I had never seen my family so upset also. Two days later my Mom called the establishment and told the manager what had happened, she already knew and told us she would in fact give us a very, very discounted price. Pleased my Mom and I said, "HOLD IT!" We picked it up that very weekend. So, now you know the story of my beloved dress, the one, the only, my dream dress! Again, I can’t wait till the day that I get to put it on and strut my stuff!
